Some Knowledge about Mercury

Mercury is one of the smallest planets in our solar system. Mercury is the closest planet to the sun. It is not easily visible except on twilight. In one century Mercury can be observed thirteen times from earth this event is known as a transit.

Mercury has a diameter of about 4,879 km and has a mass of 3.30 x 10^23 kg also we can say that Mercury has a mass of about 5.5% of the mass of Earth.

1. If you measure your weight on planet Mercury and compare that weight by the measures of your weight on Earth it would be approximately 38% of your weight on Earth. It happens because the gravity of the planet Mercury is 38% in comparison to Earth.

2. A year on Mercury is equal to 88 Earth days which is very amazing. This happens because the distance of Mercury from the Sun is less than the earth.

3. Mercury is the smallest planet in our solar system among all the other 8 planets. This is because Mercury has a diameter of only 4,879 km which lower than the other planets of our solar system.

4. Mercury has a molten core which so amazing and mysterious because other small planets have cooled core but only Mercury has a molten core. This fact is also proved and verified by NASA.

5. Only two spacecraft landed on Mercury first launched During 1974 and 1975 'Mariner 10 flew'. Second, launched on August 3rd, 2004, the Messenger probe which was launched from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, was the first spacecraft to visit since the mid-1970s.

6. Mercury is also known as the cratered planet of our solar system because Mercury has many craters on it and Mercury doesn't heal itself because it doesn't have a climate like our planet Earth. The largest crater of Mercury has a diameter of approximately  1,550 km which is so large.

7. Despite being further from the Sun, Venus experiences higher temperatures. The surface of Mercury which faces the Sun have temperatures of up to 427°C, while it measures on the alternate side this can be as low as -173°C. This is because the planet Mercury does not have an atmosphere to help to maintain the temperature.

8. As I said Mercury is very small but even with its size it is very dense. Each cubic centimeter has a density of about 5.4 grams, and only the Earth having a higher density. This happens because Mercury being composed mainly of heavy metals and rock.

9. Mercury is named for the Roman messenger to the gods.

10.  The exact date of Mercury’s discovery is unknown. No one knows who actually found the planet Mercury one of the first mentions in history being by the Sumerians around 3,000 BC.
